Synopsis:
Elsa is seven years old and different. Her grandmother is seventy-seven years old and crazy, standing-on-the-balcony-firing-paintball-guns-at-men-who-want-to-talk-about-Jesus-crazy. She is also Elsa’s best, and only, friend. At night Elsa takes refuge in her grandmother’s stories, in the Land of Almost-Awake and the Kingdom of Miamas where everybody is different and nobody needs to be normal.
When Elsa’s grandmother dies and leaves behind a series of letters apologizing to people she has wronged, Elsa’s greatest adventure begins. Her grandmother’s letters lead her to an apartment building full of drunks, monsters, attack dogs, and totally ordinary old crones, but also to the truth about fairytales and kingdoms and a grandmother like no other.

Review:

I had a little blockage (pretty big one actually) and I just couldn’t focus on reading. I! I couldn’t read!! I thought I had completely lost my super power!! Then someone recommended me My grandmother sends her regards and apologizes and I fell in love with Elsa, a seven-year-old girl, actually almost eight, who’s not very good at being seven, and her grandmother who’s seventy-seven years old, in fact, almost seventy and eight, and who is also not very good at being seventy-seven years old.

And believe me, it’s hard enough not to fall in love with a little girl who loves Harry Potter and comics, knows the superpower of every person and is a little different, and with her grandmother who plays World of Warcraft, is a superheroine and loves her niece above everything!

The book is written by Fredrik Backman, “the author of the international bestseller A man called Ove”, which is why I was a little skeptical of the book, because that’s who I am and I judge books by the cover, and I thought that this book and the above named international bestseller will be cheesy and full of feeling and stuff, don’t get me wrong, My Grandmother Sends Her Regards and Apologizes it’s a carousel of emotions and feelings, and I hope A man called Ove is just as cheesy because I’m planning to read it as soon as I get my hands on it!

My Grandmother Sends Her Regards and Apologizes it’s a book that anyone can read, and everyone will understand something else and will extract exactly what they need! It’s an adventure book, with dragons and monsters, superheroes and knights, which is happening right here in the block across the street. “For life is complicated and simple at the same time” and adventure is around every corner as long as you keep your mind open.

“Every seven-year-old deserves a superhero. That’s just how it is. Anyone who doesn’t agree needs their head examined.” That’s what Ella’s grandmother says. I have to disagree (and I think she would be proud of me) not just every seven-year-old, but any human, at any age, has the right and need for superheroes! And I think if we’re looking for them, we can find them, in the mother who always knows when you’re upset and in your friends that answer when you call at 3 a.m. and especially the guy who delivers pizza in the middle of the night!
